Graeme Marshall Sharp (1983-1985) 100 Appearances 41 Goals

Sharp was unknown at the age of 19 when Gordon Lee paid £120,000 for him in April 1980 from Dumbarton. Just look at Sharps colossal goalscoring record of 159 in 432 appearances. Sharp was part of Kendall’s plans. The Scotsman wore the famous Number 9 jersey at Everton. He became one of Everton’s all-time leading goalscorers and an Everton Legend! Sharp was so strong jumping high in the air, and an all-round striker. He had a great touch of the ball and also ran the channels. Against Crystal Place, winning 4-0 in March 1990, Sharp equalised Bob Latchford’s record of 106 league goals for the Club, and his goal against Norwich two games later took him one goal ahead. Sharp formed great partnerships in attack with the likes of Adrian Heath, Andy Gray, Gary Lineker and Tony Cottee. Sharp was quite simply an Everton Legend, second only to the abiding Dixie Dean. In the 1983-85 grandeur, the forward won honours such as a 1984 Milk Cup Runners-up Medal, a 1984 FA Cup Winners’ Medal, a 1985 League Championship Medal, a 1985 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup Medal and a 1985 FA Cup Runners-up Medal...

On 3 April 1985, Spurs were close rivals in the League campaign, and the title challengers played away on the Wednesday when Everton won 2-1. It was a big fight, Gray and Steven scored.

On 6 April 1985, Everton overturned Sunderland 4-1 in the League campaign. It was this game when Gray made his name, just like the time he put the ball in the net with his nose against Notts County. Gray was a super goalscorer; the Scotsman used his body to put the boot in anytime, he headed it on the ground. At Goodison that day, Gray scored two, Steven and Sharp netted. Everton’s next game came with a 0-0 draw away at Bayern Munich in the European Cup Winners’ Cup.

In April, it looked like Everton were starting to believe that the Championship could come back to Goodison for the first time since 1970. Kendall produced tremendous character in the Club, the players achieved greatness and success.

On 4 May 1985, Everton won 1-0 away against Sheffield Wednesday, Gray scored.

On 6 May 1985, on the Monday after the away win against Sheffield Wednesday, Everton officially won the title in the game against QPR at Goodison with 50,000 fans crammed inside. Mountfield and Sharp scored the two goals in the 2-0 win. Mountfield scored early, Sharp hit the post then he headed in from a Pat Van Den Hauwe cross. Southall made some immense shot stopping and he earned dozens of points in the 1985 campaign.

It had been fifteen years since the League title had last dwelled at Goodison Park but now the date of 6 May 1985 witnessed the Cannon League Trophy in front of the home of Evertonians. Captain Ratcliffe lifted the trophy as the players paraded the pitch with the fans who were applauding in glee. The manager, players, coaches, supporters and all of Everton were there to celebrate.
